A spinal adjustment is a quick, controlled movement applied to a stiff or irritated joint to help it move more freely. The pop you sometimes hear is gas moving within the joint fluid. It is not bone moving or clicking into place.

Adjustments are one tool among several. We use them where your examination shows a joint that is not moving well, and we always pair them with exercise and advice.

What it is used for

  • Back and neck pain with stiffness
  • Headaches that arise from the neck
  • Pain that eases when the spine is mobilised
  • Stiffness after a long period of sitting or training

Is it right for everyone?

No. If an adjustment is not suitable for you, we use gentler techniques such as joint mobilisation or soft tissue therapy instead. Many people prefer the gentler approach, and it can work just as well for many problems.

Safety

We screen for risk factors before treating and we choose a technique that suits your findings and your comfort. Mild soreness for a day or so afterwards is common. Serious complications are rare, and we will talk you through the risks and benefits before you consent.

For athletes

Stiff joints in the spine and hips can change how you move through a swing, stride or lift. Restoring movement is only half the job, so we pair adjustments with strength and mobility work that keeps it.
